President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama attended ten Inaugural Balls on the historic Inaugural Day, January 20, 2009. See video and photos, including the Obama’s first dance, at the Neighborhood Ball as Beyonce sang the Etta James classic ‘At Last.’ Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden also made the rounds, attending several balls. First Lady Michelle Obama’s Inaugural ball gown remained a guarded secret until she embarked in a gorgeous white gown designed by Taiwanese designer Jason Wu. The dramatic dress has a sash across Michelle Obama’s right shoulder.
It’s made of ivory silk chiffon, embellished with organza and Swarovski crystal rhinestones and silver thread embroidery. It was custom designed and made exclusively for Mrs. Obama, said Gina Pepe, Mr. Wu’s spokeswoman.

Upon making their first appearance, at the Neighborhood Ball, the President exclaimed, “How good looking is my wife?” He went on to deliver some brief remarks on the importance of neighborhoods. “This campaign was organized neighborhood by neighborhood,” he told the crowd. “And if you think about it, neighborhood starts with neighbor,” Obama said. “This ball is the one which captures best, I think, the spirit of this campaign… We are going to need you… because together we are going to change America.”
