Here are new video clips from Frank Miller’s “The Spirit,” the highly anticipated superhero movie based on Will Eisner’s 1940s comic series, along with posters and photos. The movie opens in theaters Christmas Day in the U.S. and on January 1, 2008 in the U.K.

The movie is written and directed by Frank Miller (“300″ and “Sin City”) and chronicles what happens when a rookie cop is murdered and returns from the dead as The Spirit to fight crime in Central City. Gabriel Macht stars as the title character and battles his nemesis, The Octopus portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson.
The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City’s rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront… all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader. Surrounding him at every turn are Ellen Dolan (Sarah Paulson), the whip-smart girl-next-door; Silken Floss (Scarlett Johansson), a punk secretary and frigid vixen; Plaster of Paris (Paz Vega), a murderous French nightclub dancer; Lorelei (Jaime King), a phantom siren; and Morgenstern (Stana Katic), a sexy young cop.

Frank Miller discussed the movie in a recent interview. A longtime friend of Will Eisner, Miller talked about his intention to stay true to Eisner’s vision.
Yes, he said that he didn’t want The Spirit to ever hold a gun. That was his bottom line, and I knew from knowing him and knowing his work that the women better be beautiful, and that the hero should be righteous and follow a 1940’s code of morality, gentlemanly conduct.

There was one point in the shoot where Eva as Sand Serif walks out of the bathroom with steam behind her, and Gabriel/The Spirit suggested that perhaps it would be simpler if he walked in, and I told him, “No, because no gentleman would ever walk into a woman’s bathroom without an invitation.”
