Here is a new full-length theatrical trailer for Notorious and a soundtrack spot. Biggy Smalls,which will be released in theaters January 16, 2009. The movie soundtrack is set for release January 13, 2009.
The movie chronicles the life of the legendary East Coast rapper, whose given name was Christopher Wallace. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he rose quickly to music stardom but died tragically in 1997 at age 24. The movie was produced by Voletta Wallace, the late rapper’s mother, and directed by George Tillman Jr. from a screenplay by Reggie Rock Bythewood and Cheo Hodari Coker.
Jamal Woolard stars as The Notorious B.I.G., Angela Bassett as Voletta Wallace, Derek Luke as Sean Diddy Combs, Anthony Mackie as Tupac Shakur, Antonique Smith as Faith Evans, Sean Ringgold as Suge Knight, Charles Malik Whitfield as Wayne Barrow and Naturi Naughton as Lil Kim.
“I’m like the 2009 Jennifer Hudson,” rapper Jamal “Gravy” Woolard says, laughing at his improbable turn as hip-hop titan Biggie Smalls in Notorious, due in theaters January 16th.
The thing is, it’s no joke. Woolard more than holds his own next to seasoned vets Angela Bassett (What’s Love Got To Do With It), Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher) and Anthony Mackie (She Hate Me). According to those close to the film, the Brooklyn lyricist-turned-thespian endured an intense boot-camp-like training at Julliard, where he dove into method-acting techniques and had cotton balls stuffed in his mouth to learn better diction.

The three discuss Notorious’ enduring legacy in as a pioneer in hip hop. “He created the structure of everything that we have as a culture today,” Anthony Mackie notes.
