Shontelle performed her single “T-Shirt” for the “Yahoo! Kia’s Who’s Next” (New Now) series and was profiled in an interview. See the videos and photos here. It’s is the lead single from the Bajan singer-songwriter’s debut album, Shontelligence, (SRC Records/Motown Records) in stores now.
In her interview, Shontelle talked about how she got into the music business. She was studying law and philosophy at the University of West Indies “trying to have my backup plan.” She wrote the song “Roll It Gal” for Alison Hinds, a renown Bajan soca artist, known as the “Queen of Soca.” The song became a hit and launched her own music career.

Growing up, she said she had admired artists such as Wyclef Jean and Missy Elliott whose music encompasses several different musical genres. She said she always wanted to be the “Caribbean Missy Elliott” believing that “there should be no boundaries with the creative process.” She talked about her admiration of fellow Bajan artist Rihanna. Defining her album and its title, Shontelligence, she said it is “everything I learned and experienced translated musically.”
