The Grammy Award winning R&B singer-songwriter performed five of her songs, “What About Us” and “Full Moon” from her 2002 album Full Moon, “Almost Doesn’t Count” from her 1998 album “‘Never Say Never.” She also sang her two newest singles, “Right Here (Departed)” and “Long Distance” from Human. The new album features a range of producers and songwriters including Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, James Fauntleroy, Toby Gad, Brian Kennedy, and RedOne.
Brandy’s turbulent last few years are well known and widely reported; she was involved in a car accident that caused a fatality and has been dealing with the aftermath. In a recent interview, Brandy she had taken so long (four years) to release a new album because she had not been feeling creatively inspired.
“I’m not the type of artist to just put something out just to stay out there. Like, I really want to give fans what they deserve, which is good music and music from the heart. And I just — if I was going to do music again I wanted it to be from a good place and from an inspirational place.”
Brandy added that creating and recording proved to be therapeutic for her: “Just with the accident and all of the struggles I’ve been through, I dove into my music and I was able to release all of my feelings through my music. It was sort of therapeutic doing this album. And, you know, I just wanted to give something with purpose and meaning.”
