Video: CEO John Rogers Takes on Michael Jordan

in: Sports

Basketball legend Michael Jordan was defeated in a one-on-one with Ariel Investments CEO John Rogers in 2003 at Jordan’s “Flight School” camp in Las Vegas, as was first reported earlier this year.  Now video has surfaced via The Wall Street Journal.

On SI’s Fan Nation, Chris Ballard says that he once heard a story about Michael Jordan losing a game of one-on-one to a camper at his high-end “Flight School” in Las Vegas.

Lo and behold, after a little research, Ballard was able to watch video of the day John Rogers Jr., founder and CEO of the nation’s largest minority-run mutual fund, beat a post-Wizards era Michael Jordan in a game to three.

Interestingly, John Rogers is among a small group of influential Chicagoans with whom President-Elect Barack Obama had played basketball with regularly.

Some of those he plays with include Arne Duncan (CEO of the Chicago Public Schools), Alexi Giannoulias (Illinois State Treasurer), Martin Nesbitt (Chairman of CHA), Craig Robinson (Brown’s basketball coach and Obama’s brother-in-law), and John Rogers (founder of Ariel Mutual Funds, the largest African-American owned mutual fund company).
