Stanislaw “Stas” Gunkel is a seven-year old political blogger in Chicago who began his blog, Report from Planet Stas, as a school project. Watch Chicago NBC affiliate WMAQ news report of the young blogger who received a letter of recognition from President-elect Barack Obama, five days before the historic election.
Stas began his blog with the encouragement of his parents, Ann Hetzel Gunkel and David Gunkel who are both academics and bloggers. He covers a range of topics including politics, the Presidential election, alternative energy, and the Iraq war.
“It was not, like, really hot,” Gunkel told the Sun-Times about the talk on the presidential race during recess at Beaubien Elementary School, where he’s in second grade. “We talked about it, and I read some Scholastic magazines.”
