U.S. President-Elect Barack Obama, his wife Michelle Obama, and their daughters Sasha and Malia are on the cover of People Magazine, November 24, 2008 issue. See the cover and Election night photos of the next First Family here. It’s the second week in a row People has covered Obama’s historic victory. According to news reports, last week’s issue sold extremely well. While competitor US Weekly ran a cover story on the Obama family before the election results, People waited until after the election to report and commemorate Obama’s historic victory.

Us Weekly, according to those estimates, could sell more than a million copies and People is on pace to sell nearly two million issues, if not more. (A rep for Us won’t comment on exact numbers, but confirms the issue sold “better than average, extremely well,” and a rep for People says that “early indicators indicate it will be one of the year’s top sellers.”)

In stark contrast, the report goes on to note that another competitor, OK! Magazine ran a cover story on Suri Cruise, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and sold fewer than 300,000 copies.
