Beyonce performed her new single “If I Were a Boy” live at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards on November 6, 2008 at the Echo Arena  in Liverpool, England.   The single is from her highly anticipated third studio album, , I Am…Sasha Fierce will be released on November 18, 2008.

Beyonce was the first performer to take the stage at the 15th annual awards show, broadcast in 40  European countries, whose awards are selected by music fans across the Europe.  The awards ceremony, held in the hometown of the Beatles honored music legend Sir Paul McCartney with the Ultimate Legend Award.   As did many other artists throughout the night, McCartney paid tribute to U.S. President-Elect Barack Obama.

“Many years ago four little boys were born here in Liverpool and we went on to do quite well,” McCartney said of his former band the Beatles, the most successful pop act of all time.

So thanks to all my family, to all of you for coming along to all of you in Liverpool, to everyone in Britain, to everyone in America for voting for Mr. Obama.”

In an interview with People magazine, Beyonce discussed Obama’s historic victory.

Knowles watched the election results at home with friends and family – while wearing a blue suit and tie with matching red, white and blue stilettos.

“I’ve never been so patriotic!” she said. And, like Diddy, she was moved to tears. “I fell asleep crying and smiling at the same time … I woke up with mascara running and a smile on my face!”

Should Obama require her services, the singer is game: “Whatever they want – if they need me to volunteer, they need me to sing, I’m there and I’m ready.”

But what is most important, Knowles said, is that the newly elected president has provided inspriration for African Americans.

“My nephew, who is 4, when we say, ‘You can do whatever, you can be whatever,’ it’s not cliche,” she explained.
