Ten-time Grammy Award winner Kanye West performed his new single, “Love Lockdown” live, and also performed with UK R&B star Estelle their hit single “American Boy” at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards on November 6, 2008 at the Echo Arena  in Liverpool, England.

The “American Boy” performance was dedicated to U.S. President-Elect Barack Obama, whose image was featured on an onstage screen. This was one of many tributes to Obama’s historic victory throughout the awards ceremony.

Or, as some press reports have dubbed it, Obamamania met Beatlemania, referencing the locale of the ceremony, the hometown of the Beatles and Sir Paul McCartney’s appearance at the awards ceremony where he received the Ultimate Legend Award.

Kanye West won the won the Ultimate Urban award at the MTV Europe Music Awards, which are selected by fans across the European continent and broadcast in 40  European countries.

Estelle’s “American Boy” features Kanye West and was produced by will.i.am.  It is the second UK single and the first international  from Estelle’s second studio album, Shine, which was released in early 2008.

“Love Lockdown” is the lead single from Kanye West’s highly anticipated fourth studio album, 808s & Heartbreak, which will be released on November 25, 2008.
