Audio: Palin Sarkozy Prank Call – Quebec Comedy Duo Pranks Sarah Palin

Republican VP candidate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin thought she was talking to to French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Listen to the amazing six-minute audio of Palin conversing with prankster Marc-Antoine Audette of the Montreal comedy duo, The Masked Avengers, posing as Sarkozy with an over-the-top French accent.   She accepts the flattery: “You know I see you as a President, too,” he says, to which she chuckles and says, “Maybe in eight years.”

The conversation covers a range of topics from hunting from a helicopter (Palin assures “Sarkozy” she is a better shot than Vice President Dick Cheney) to Joe the Plumber. Sarkozy even says he can see Belgium from his house and that his wife, French model and singer Carla Bruni is “hot in bed.”  The conversation gets stranger and sillier and Palin still does not realize she is being pranked.

Palin campaign spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt confirmed she had received the prank call.

“Governor Palin was mildly amused to learn that she had joined the ranks of heads of state, including President Sarkozy and other celebrities, in being targeted by these pranksters. C’est la vie,” she said.

The call was made by a well-known Montreal comedy duo Marc-Antoine Audette and Sebastien Trudel. Known as the Masked Avengers, the two are notorious for prank calls to celebrities and heads of state.

The Canadian Press interviewed the comedy duo and they discussed how they were able to pull off the prank. Audette said it took a lot of work.

“We had to go through the Secret Service, the people in her entourage. It’s the biggest coup so far. We’re proud to add (this prank) to our top hits.”

It took the pair, known for securing surreptitious interviews with celebrities, politicians and heads of state, five days to set up the call, Audette said. The secret to getting powerful people on the line? Time and persistence.

“I wanted to see how (Palin) was on an intellectual level,” Audette said, comparing the latest prank to the duo’s crank call with pop idol Britney Spears.

“You can see that she’s, well, not really brilliant.”
