Democratic Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama made a surprise appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show via satellite from Miami, Florida for a program broadcast on October 22, 2008.  First on the agenda, Obama danced briefly to James Brown’s“Get Up Offa That Thing” in response to a challenge; Michelle Obama had danced on Ellen’s show in September and she and Ellen agreed she was the better dancer of the two.  (Barack Obama had danced on Ellen’s show back in October 2007 – see video.)

“Let me tell you that Michelle may be a better dancer. But I’m convinced I’m a better dancer than John McCain,” Obama said.   Ellen DeGeneres and Obama then discussed Halloween and the costumes the candidate’s daughters had choicen; the younger, Sasha, will be a corpse bride and Malia will be an evil fairy.  Obama said they looked too cute.  “They’re not scary enough for my taste. I want them to have blood dripping.”

When Ellen showed viewers a photograph of Obama, from years ago,  in a pirate costume  he joked that he considered wearing it to one of the presidential  debates.

Ellen solicited the Presidential candidate’s assistance in getting George Clooney to appear on her program, and said she thought that with his persuasiveness and eloquence he would have more success than she had.  Going into political mode, Obama said he would  appoint Clooney to be Ambassador to the Ellen DeGeneres Show:   “We would have you and him sit down without preconditions,” he said.
