R&B singer-songwriter Michelle Williams was interviewed on the Today Show on October 9, 2008.  Her highly anticipated third studio album, Unexpected was released on October 7 and is in stores now.

Michelle Williams discussed the album, which is a departure from the gospel roots she had explored in her sophomore album, Do You Know.  She also talked about what it was like being a member of Destiny’s Child and benefiting from sisterhood and camaraderie of the group.   She said the challenges of being a solo artist have helped her grow as her as did  her experience of being in the Chicago-based cast of the national tour of the Broadway musical The Color Purple in which she played blues singer Shug Avery.  She also talked about basketball; she is part owner of the WNBA Chicago Sky.
