The New York premiere of Spike Lee’s highly anticipated World War II movie, Miracle at St. Anna took place at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City on September 22, 2008. Attendees included Spike Lee and cast members Kerry Washington, Derek Luke, Laz Alonso and Valentina Cervi. Other attendees included Martin Scorsese, Wesley Snipes, Swizz Beatz and Paula Patton.
Miracle at St. Anna will be released in theaters September 26, 2008. The World War II epic follows the story of four “Buffalo Soldiers,” members of the Negro 92nd Division of the U.S. Army stationed in Tuscany, Italy. The soldiers become trapped behind enemy lines and separated from their unit after one of them risks his life to save an Italian boy in the Tuscan village of St. Anna di Stazzema.
The movie is based on James McBride’s novel by the same title; McBride also wrote the movie’s screenplay. The movie stars Derek Luke, Michael Early, Laz Alonso, Omar Benson Miller, Matteo Sciabordi, John Leguizamo, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Kerry Washington, Michael K. Williams, Valentina Cervi and Pierfrancesco Favino.
