Video & Photos: Sarah Palin Interview with Sean Hannity on Hannity & Colmes 9-17-08 (Part 1)

Sarah Palin on Hannity & Colmes, September 17, 2008

Republican Vice Presidential candidate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was interviewed by Sean Hannity on Hannity & Colmes on Fox News.  Part 1 of the interview was broadcast on September 17, 2008.  Part 2 will  be broadcast on September 18, 2008.  Discussion ranged from the state of the economy to Palin’s reaction to Tina Fey’s impersonation of her on Saturday Night Live’s season premiere on September 13.

This was Sarah Palin’s second major television interview, after the much discussed interview last week with ABC World News anchor Charles Gibson.  CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric will conduct the next major interview with Palin, which will be broadcast on September 29 and 30 on the CBS Evening News and The Early Show.

Sarah Palin, on FOX News Channel’s “Hannity & Colmes”–her second big national interview–defends John McCain for saying the “fundamentals” of the economy are strong as the meltdown continues. The latest: Lehman Brothers and AIG, the insurance giant failing. Barack Obama has been slamming McCain on the stump and in paid ads for being out of touch on populist pocketbook issues. McCain was put on the defensive, having to explain what he really intended to say, which Palin channels in her FOX interview.

But Hannity elicits perhaps the most intriguing answer from Palin when he wraps up the first of two interview segments by asking if she had seen Tina Fey unveil her satirical impersonation of the Republican vice presidential nominee on this past weekend’s “Saturday Night Live.”

Our own Dish Rag blog had reported Tuesday that Palin, who was on a campaign plane at the time, had watched and, through a spokeswoman, declared it “quite funny, particularly because she once dressed up as Tina Fey for Halloween.”

Palin elaborates for Hannity: She watched, but she didn’t listen. That’s because she had “the volume all the way down.” Later, she reiterates: “Again, didn’t hear a word she said…”

Still, she offers a rave: “I thought it was hilarious. I thought she was spot on.”

The resemblance between the two is, of course, remarkable — and apparently enough to regale Palin. But one can’t help but wonder if the Alaska governor would have offered the “hilarious” plaudit if she had heard the comedian’s words.

There were barbs aplenty aimed at getting laughs, such as the Fey/Palin take on the cause of global warming: “I believe it’s just God hugging us closer.”
