Olympic legend U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on September 8, 2008. In a lively interview with Jay Leno, Michael Phelps discussed his record setting eight gold medal win at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Video clips of the Olympics were shown including the suspenseful ending of the 4×100 freestyle relay race.
Michael Phelps discussed the swimming foundation he will be starting using the $1 million bonus he received from Speedo for breaking Mark Spitz’s seven gold medals record. He also discussed his experience of meeting music superstars backstage at the recent 2008 MTV Video Music Awards (in which he made an appearance, introducing the live performance by Lil Wayne, T-Pain and Leona Lewis) and the upcoming Saturday Night Live premiere which he will be hosting on September 13, 2008.
